- Backing Ukraine reinforces U.S. credibility, deters future aggression, and reaffirms transatlantic resolve. It also helps prevent the consolidation of an authoritarian bloc led by Moscow and Beijing.
Strategic Priorities for Supporting Ukraine
- Maintain bipartisan military, economic, and humanitarian support for Ukraine.
- Build a long-term security architecture for postwar Ukraine.
- Use Russian asset seizures to support Ukraine's reconstruction.
- Prevent division between Ukraine solidarity and strategic focus on Asia.
- While the feasibility of prying Moscow away from Beijing remains uncertain, the effort to divide authoritarian alignment is a rational element of long-term strategic competition. Any recalibration must be carefully managed to avoid undermining allied unity or sacrificing Ukraine’s security.
